In 1977, a few students from Okanagan Bible School visited Kelowna City Park weekly, offering coffee and conversation to park visitors. As winter approached there was an apparent need to shield vulnerable community members from the cold. The students opened a drop-in centre that grew to be Kelowna’s Gospel Mission Society in 1978.
By 1985, we had a soup kitchen, a new emergency shelter, and the thrift store. With this foundation, we are able to advance in our mission to lead our community from homelessness into wholeness.
Kelowna Gospel Mission will feed the hungry, shelter the homeless and help the hurting. We will provide assistance to all. We will minister to the whole person, spirit, soul and body by sharing Jesus with a servant’s heart.
