Discipleship through Connecting Groups
Small groups, or what we call connecting points, are any environment that allows people to belong more and more to each other as they become more and more like Jesus. Many small groups are starting up this fall. Call the church office or see the Welcome Centre on a Sunday morning for more information.
Coming to a new church is just the same as starting at a new school, or moving into a new neighbourhood. It can be intimidating trying to build new friendships and connections. If you are new to the church, we want to make the transition as smooth as possible for you. Sign up for our 6 week small group and join others that are just starting out. Meeting at the home of Garry and Lorraine Roth, and led by Dave and Lorelie Hanson, you’ll hear the story of Emmanuel, the stories of each other, and the history and values of the church, as well as how you can find deeper and lasting connections.
If you consider yourself a new believer or are in the process of trying to figure out what Christianity is about, Alpha is for you. Alpha is a course that brings food, people, and conversations about the faith together. To find out how to get involved or to find out more about the program, visit www.alphacanada.org
Emotionally Healthy Spirituality (EHS)
We have found that when we come to know Jesus, it is important to surrender all aspects of our lives to him, including our experiences, reactions, vices, insecurities and personality. The Emotionally Healthy Spirituality Course (and family of courses) explores how to remove barriers that get in the way of Christian maturity and embrace disciplines that enable you to grow in your Christian faith. Different EHS courses run through the Fall and Winter seasons. To learn more about EHS, visit www.emotionallyhealthy.org.
Community Bible Study (CBS)
CBS is an international, interdenominational intensive Bible study program that Emmanuel has been happy to host for years. It takes place on Wednesday mornings at 9 am in the Fall and in the Spring. The study starts with corporate worship, and then participants break off into small groups. At this point of time CBS is a women’s Bible study.
Relational (Life Stage) Groups
Young Adults (Wednesdays at 7:30 pm)
Our young adults come together for a weekly gathering that may include a book or Bible Study, a service project, or a fun activity. The group is led and hosted by Cory and Laura Wiemken. It is for students, recent high school or college graduates, and early 20-somethings. To know what is happening, ask to visit their facebook page: The Krew (Young Adults). Contact the church office for more information.
Sometimes a new mom just wants to find other people to talk with amidst the hectic schedule of looking after their children. If that’s you, we invite you to Mommy Talk, a drop-in program on Fridays in our gym. A casual environment with activities for the kids. A great way to meet people who know what you’re going through.
Wednesday Men’s Group (Wednesday Nights)
There is a core group of men who meet in our chapel each Wednesday at 7 pm, to encourage one another, study God’s Word together, share stories, and pray together. All men are invited, regardless of stage of life. Men’s ministry also includes a yearly retreat, as well as missions projects that take place locally.
This ministry focuses on connecting women through small groups. These groups currently include bible study and prayer, hiking and walking, and socials. As well, there is Community Bible Study (CBS) on Wednesday mornings. Contact the church office for more information or see their Facebook page at Emmanuel Church Women’s Ministries.
