Pluck Out Your Eye

Hard Sayings of Jesus Series 5

Jesus used severe language when discussing our approach to sin. Did he really want us to physically remove the body part that led us astray? Jesus is suggesting something more profound: a radical response to God’s commands as they relate to our hearts.
[Matthew 5: 27-30; Matthew 18:6-9; Mark 9:42-48]

Jesus Came to Bring a Sword

Hard Sayings of Jesus Series 4

Did Jesus really say, “I came not to bring peace, but the sword.” Yes, but context is key. Jesus doesn’t want violence or division, but not everyone wants to follow Jesus. This is the Jesus effect: we either follow him or reject him. There is no middle ground.
[Matthew 10:34; Romans 12:18]

Love Your Enemies

Hard Sayings of Jesus Series 2

Did Jesus really say, “love your enemies?” The world can be a troubling place, but there is a better way: the way Jesus taught and lived–the way of love. His love knows no bounds and He calls us to follow. So do we truly love others including our enemies?
[Matthew 5:43-48; Romans 5:8-10]

Give to Caesar What Is Caesar’s

Hard Sayings of Jesus Series 1

In this series, we will tackle some of the hard sayings of Jesus. Did Jesus really say that? Here we tackle Jesus’ statement to “give to Caesar what is Caesar’s.” Is he talking about a balance between government and religion or is he suggesting something more?
[Mark 12:12-17]
